Frequently asked questions

What is FedSonar?

FedSonar finds US federal contract opportunities posted on SAM.gov and sorts them into seven categories: SI, cybersecurity, IT and software, engineering and R&D, construction and facilities, consulting, and health and medical. Each lead links to the official notice on SAM.gov.

Where does the data come from?

From the official public SAM.gov Contract Opportunities file. This preview uses the file of Oct 16, 2026, 8:30 PM PT.

FedSonar is run by Farsonar and is not part of, or affiliated with, the US government. See Terms, section 2 and section 5.

How often are leads updated?

We refresh leads regularly from the latest SAM.gov file. Each list shows the date of the file it was built from.

Notices can change. Always check the official notice and any amendments on SAM.gov before you bid.

How are the summaries written?

Only from each notice's own title, description and fields. When a description is empty or just a pointer, the summary says so. On lead pages they're marked “built from the notice fields”, and the full description is shown as printed in the notice.

What's free, and what do the paid plans include?
  • Free: a weekly email with up to 4 free leads per category.
  • $7 Lead Pack: this week's full list, all categories, for one week. No subscription.
  • Pro, $29 per month:
    • Every lead, every category
    • Track saved leads: email alerts when a lead you saved changes (deadline, status, award)
    • Saved searches: email alerts when new leads match your search
    • Weekly CSV export
    • Canada when it’s live

Alert emails only go out when something happens. No change, no email.

These are planned plans. Nothing is for sale in this private preview. See Pricing.

Can I bid on this lead?

Check the notice itself: its set-aside, NAICS code and instructions decide who can respond. Anything FedSonar shows about fit or eligibility is guidance only, not legal, procurement or bidding advice. See Terms, section 17.

What are small business set-asides, and what does the filter do?

Some notices are reserved (set aside) for certain kinds of small business. The Small business only switch on Search and the category pages keeps leads whose set-aside is one of these: total or partial small business set-asides, 8(a), HUBZone, service-disabled veteran-owned (SDVOSB), women-owned (WOSB and EDWOSB), veteran-owned (VA) and Indian small business (ISBEE).

Leads marked "Open to all" or "No set-aside listed" are hidden while the switch is on. Each program has its own rules, so check the notice.

What do the coloured notice tags mean?

They show the notice type, and the text is always on the tag:

  • Solicitation Open for bids (also Combined Synopsis/Solicitation)
  • Presolicitation Coming soon
  • Sources Sought / RFI Market research
  • Special Notice Notice
  • Award / other Awarded or other types
Do you cover Canada?

Not yet. FedSonar is US-only today. We're adding CanadaBuys federal tenders next, and Pro will include Canada when it's live.

How do I cancel Pro?

The Terms say you can cancel Pro anytime from your account or through Lemon Squeezy. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and you won’t be charged again. Refund rules are in Terms, section 15.
